What is tempura paper, and how is it used? Tempura is drained in the kitchen before serving, but the main use of “tempura paper” (it’s just Japanese paper, cut to a standard size) is to protect the tableware on which it is used (it is often unfinished baskets, and traditionally lacquerware meshed trays and baskets were used as well) and the secondary purpose is aesthetic (oily traces on the tableware are considered unseemly).
Another purpose is culinary, but linked to the reason why it’s often served in baskets instead of plates in the first place. The paper absorbs moisture, so the tempura served on it won’t get limp and soggy as fast as it would placed directly on a ceramic plate.AED 89.25AED 89.25
